Word problems in Maths can be quite challenging but the key to conquering a word problem is to read the question properly so as to enable comprehension of what is required for you to solve and to get the information that has been provided to enable you to solve it.
If it is a long sentence, or several sentences, break the sentences up into parts. Understand each part, jot down the information provided in it then proceed to the next part of the question.
After jotting down the information provided in the question, ask yourself “How will this information enable me to get the solution?”. From that point, you can begin to create a simple equation for each stage of the problem until you get to the solution.
